As entrepreneurs we tend to be creative by nature with a flurry of free flowing ideas whirling around in our head. We often work on multiple projects and have various things on the go. Things are going well. And then, bam. It hits. The creative mental block. The once free flowing ideas stagnate and it’s unfamiliar territory. But what happens when this mental block turns into a bit of a business rut that has you floundering for ideas, grasping at projects and has a once steady stream of clients stalling? Feelings of overwhelm begin to bubble and you may even begin to question why on earth you started this journey in the first place.
So what can we do to get those creative juices flowing and bounce out of the rut? Here are five ways to shake your business rut and get you back to feeling your fresh, fierce and amazing self living and doing business on your terms.
Once you acknowledge the current situation and how you feel you can then begin to move through it. Put pen to paper and write. Get out what the not so great feelings and thoughts that might be swirling around in your mind. Address what is happening. Ask yourself: What is holding you back? What is the issue? Face the roadblocks, see them for what they are and then you can begin to move through it.
Clean your desk, your office. Delete some emails. Clean your computer desktop. Have a bit of a clean out. Meditate or journal. Make space physically, mentally and emotionally – for new ideas, clients and opportunities. Get things flowing again by creating space in each aspect of your life. In Dynamic Laws Of Prosperity by Catherine Ponder she writes “Nature abhors a vacuum.” Where there is space the universe or our life will rush to fill it. But we must create that space first.
FOCUS ON WHAT YOU WANT
When stuck in a rut we can often have certain self talk playing on repeat in our mind. Once we have acknowledged it, rather than dwelling on it, it’s okay to begin to change the channel. If we are saying to ourselves “This is so bad, I’m stuck in a rut and I can’t get out, I feel terrible” or something to that tune we can change it – consciously – to something uplifting and empowering such as: “This will pass. Everything will work out. I’ve got this.” It might feel like we are convincing ourself at first soon but if we stick with it we will notice a shift. What we repeatedly say to ourselves over and over in our mind can have a dramatic affect on the outwards results we produce. So make sure the channel you are listening to is empowering and uplifting.
SHAKE UP YOUR ROUTINE A BIT
Get outside. Do something different. I have five words for you: Step away from the computer. Get some fresh air in your lungs. Get out in nature. Step away from technology and press reset. Go for a walk. Stretch. Go to a lunch time yoga class. Move your body, do something different. The best ideas often come when you don’t force them they come when we are relaxed doing something else.
BUILD A POWERFULLY SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AROUND YOU
Surround yourself with like minded people who support the journey that you are on and who will uplift you, empower you and hod you to higher standard. I once heard: “It’s hard to soar like an eagle if you are surrounded by turkeys.” So surround yourself with people who are on a similar journey or path. Be mindful of who you spend your time with and ensure you surround yourself with people who will lift you up and who get what you are about.
